WHY PEOPLE ARE FILING
Atrium Medical Corporation is a subsidiary of parent company Getinge Group that creates medical device technologies, including hernia mesh. One type of mesh, known as the C-QUR hernia mesh, is a polypropylene mesh coated in an Omega 3. It was created to reduce the risk of attachment to the tissue around internal organs and quicken the healing process. However, this mesh caused adverse reactions and did not help surgical patients. In fact, patients who received the C-QUR hernia mesh have reported a wide range of effects, including: allergic reaction, infection, pain, migration, perforation of organs, and rejection of the implanted mesh by the body. As a result, thousands of former patients have filed lawsuits and Getinge Group announced that it would pay 66 million dollars to settle over 3000 claims from patients who faced serious injury from the C-QUR hernia mesh.
