WHY PEOPLE ARE FILING
Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson subsidary, created Physiomesh as a permanent polypropylene mesh to reinforce muscle and tissue after hernia surgery. However, this mesh was not as compatible with the body as they originally thought. Surgical patients who received the mesh began experiencing a severe inflammatory immune system response of pain and swelling. Soon afterward, Ethicon issued a safety recall and instructed hospitals across the country to immediately stop using the mesh. Since then, thousands of lawsuits have been filed against Ethicon stating that the company failed to warn patients of the adverse effects this mesh caused.
